Turkey’s population of over 72 million and increasing health concerns presents a promising future for companies in the healthcare field. The medical devices and supplies sector in Turkey is comprised of about 6,000 companies with a growth of approximately 25% a year between 2003 and 2007. Turkish medical manufacturers produce thousands of items ranging from the simplest disposables to the most complicated medical equipment. The development of private hospitals, clinics and health centers has exploded in Turkey, particularly for plastic and cosmetic surgery, orthopedics and ophthalmology. The Ministry of Health is planning to invest in 51 hospitals, 19 annex buildings, 98 local health units and a large number of oral health centers. The pharmaceutical industry is also worth noting, with 134 firms in the sector. The large number of facilities present many opportunities for international companies who intend to enter into joint ventures and other forms of mutually beneficial cooperation with their Turkish counterparts.
