
Sevtap Akgüloğlu, Commercial Attaché of the Consulate General of Turkey in Chicago, has pursued a bureaucratic career for more than 19 years in the areas of bilateral and multilateral economic and commercial relations. She has been appointed the Commercial Attache of the Consulate General of Turkey in Chicago in June 2010. In this capacity, she works to develop and expand markets for Turkish goods and services in the Midwest region of the United States, and offer sector/market-specific solutions to American companies so that they can benefit from the trade and investment opportunities in Turkey.
She received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hacettepe Univesity in Ankara, Turkey in 1989. After graduation, she worked as an Expert in the Finance Department of Marconi Telecommunications System Ltd. in Chelmsford, Essex, UK. She also worked at Elektra Biomedical Engineering Ltd. as the Imports and Marketing Manager in Ankara, Turkey. After 2 years of industry experience, she started her public service at the Undersecretariat of Treasury and Foreign Trade in Turkey in 1991. She completed her graduate degree in Economics at Western Michigan University in 1996 while continuing to work as a Foreign Trade Expert. Between 2002 and 2005, she served as the Commercial Attache of the Consulate General of Turkey in Shanghai where she rapidly developed concrete working relations between Turkey and China to further enhance the economic and commercial ties.
Throughout her career at the Undersecretariat for Foreign Trade, Ms. Akgüloğlu served as the foreign trade expert, head of section, acting head of department in the General Directorate of Imports and General Directorate of Exports; in Department of Safeguard Measures, Department of Textiles, Department of International Relations, Department of Fairs and Promotions, Department of Affiliated Organizations, Department of Agricultural Products and Department of Industry.
She is married with two children, and speaks Turkish, English, basic Spanish and basic Chinese.
