Yavuz Özutku is the Commercial Attaché of the Consulate General of Turkey in New York. In this capacity, he works to open and expand new markets for Turkish goods and services in the US, specifically in the East Coast. He received his B.S. in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations in 1995 from the Faculty of Political Sciences, Ankara University, and his M.S. in Finance degree in 2003 from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has a number of publications on economy and foreign trade. He started his career as the Assistant Foreign Trade Expert at Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade (UFT), in Directorate General of Imports in 1996. He served as Foreign Trade Expert, Chief of Section and then promoted as the Head of R&D Department in 2006. During his term at DG of Exports, he took active roles on preparation and implementation of “2003-2006 Export Strategic Plan of Turkey” and then “2007-2010 Export Strategic Plan of Turkey”, which were the base policy planning and implementing documents for Turkish exports. Until assigning to his current position, he also served as the Project Coordination Unit Director for the “Development of a Clustering Policy in Turkey”, a 2 year - 36 million Euro worth project that aims to develop a comprehensive and visionary clustering policy that contributes to the sustainable social, environmental and economic development in Turkey.
